I don't know what dog i want jack Russell, Italian greyhound, shih tzu, golden retriever or lab?
jack Russell-life span is a plus, possibly destructive .
Italian greyhound-great lap dog great personality and big lifespan, but fragile and I'm afraid to leave at home alone notoriously hard to potty train.
shih tzu-good life span some bad health issues comfortable size doesn't need much exercise
extremely cute in little clothes.
golden or lab-beautiful dogs, smart so probably easy to potty train but big, with an average age of 12 yrs old which is considered short to me want at least 16 yrs of age for a dog.
but there is a problem i work 8-12 hour shifts (single) and i get off a week sometimes do not want cats not as affectionate. I will give a dog a good life it will be neutered and fed top quality dog food and will drink best bottled water i can find and vet. i have the money. and after work i will spend most of the time with my dog. walks, food, bathroom (etc.)
somebody please help me pick a comfortable sized dog, with long life span, easily potty trained, can leave at home for long periods, very playful and affectionate and cute, doesn't require much exercise.

I would recomend a shih tzu.
A shih tzu is small. But it has a long life span, 14 years. Girls are easier to potty train, so if you get a shih tzu or any dog get a girl. Or if you get a guy they'll pee all over the place. You can leave a shih tzu up to 8 hours at home alone. When its a puppy try to stay with it as much as possible since they cant control their bladder. So they wouldnt be able to hold pee in that much. Shih tzus are adorable! They dont need to much excersise. They are extremly playful
I have one. She fetches, and stays in her crate for over 6 hours a day without potty breaks. She needs to go on a walk once or twice a week. I recomend you get one, they are really good. If over 8 hours I recomend getting a bigger dog. Oh yeah, shih tzus do have back problems. If you let them climb up and down stairs they are more likly to get a back problem when their older.
I have a shitzu poodle boy- they are playfull and hyper- and they will follow one person around that they reallly like- they are very loyal dogs.
Are you getting a puppy? Puppys need to go to the bathroom every couple of hours, early socialization, several training sessions a day….do you have time for that? If you get an adult from the shelter it may have separation anxiety that will take patience and weeks of training to correct. A dog with separation anxiety will destroy your house and disturb your neighbors with howling. If you must get a dog look in the local paper for someone who is giving their dog away because they cannot keep it ( because of moving or something) It will most likely not have separation anxiety.
I recommend mutts- they have less chance of inherited diseases and therefore a longer lifespan.
hope i helped.
well i have a lab and she is beautiful and loving and affctionate but she does require a bit of excersice, i also used to have a yorkshire terrier who was so sweet and was happy to lie down and slep all day, she did like to go for walks but to long and u would have to carry her she loved to play with squeaky toys and then cuddle up with you at night. she lived until she was 14 and had to spend the entire day by herself when we all went to school and work. she was not to big she was slightly smaller than a jack russel but she was a bigger yorkshire terrier. also dont be daunted by there long hair we kept her short and easy and she still looked adorable.
You should get a shih tzu, like you said, they're small so they won't need at much exercise. So, this goes well since you work 8-12 hour shifts.
I would pick a
Golden retriver
Labrador
How about a Border Collie
jack russells are EXTREMELY hyper and obnoxious. theyre cute but crazy. i have actually had all of those dogs that u mentioned which is weird and mt favorite was my shih tzu, he was awesome. he lived to be 15 and really health problems until he got older. they r known for getting ear infections though but its not that big of a deal. i say get a shih tzu they are the best.
after having a couple russell my self i would be bias and say jack , fun , long life span , not to many hereditary problems ,
jacks just as easy to train as a lab , but do want to hunt all the time , they are very mischievous but that's what makes them so fun ,
only real problem with jacks that they do like to fight larger dogs , i had one that attacked german shepherds on site
but you will never beat the character of a russell
i had gsd mix, rotties , but i really got a soft spot for the crazy terrier
