Plus-Size Women, “Real” Women?

Tonight on Life Size Radio, we talked about the “real women” debate. We often hear plus-size women being called “real,” but is that fair to women who are NOT plus?

I personally don’t think that the terminology is particularly insulting or unfair, when used in the proper context. We represent the majority, but we’re hardly represented in the mainstream. Day-to-day, I see far more women who are curvy, strong, or simply taller and big-boned than I see smaller women, but that’s not the case on the internet, in my magazines, or on television. It’s about being inclusive, not exclusive. Clearly we’re all real, but some of us have been treated like second-class citizens, especially in the fashion world. Let’s play fair! It’s our turn, finally.
